‘Barbie’ Leads Critics Choice Awards Nominations with Record-Breaking 18 Nods
In a spectacular triumph, Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster hit, “Barbie,” has secured a groundbreaking 18 nominations at the Critics Choice Awards, setting a new record for the organization’s 29-year history. The film surpasses previous record-holders, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Shape of Water,” both of which received 14 nominations in their respective years.
Among the numerous accolades, “Barbie” clinched nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress (Margot Robbie). Additionally, supporting actors Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera garnered nods, along with three nominations for original songs: “Dance the Night,” “I’m Just Ken,” and “What Was I Made For?”
Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” closely follow with 13 nominations each, tying for the second-highest number in the awards ceremony. The Best Picture category includes a diverse range of films such as Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” Blitz Bazawule’s “The Color Purple,” and Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro.”
The awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14, will be broadcast live on The CW, with Chelsea Handler returning as the host.
