As holiday shopping brings the hustle and bustle to stores, it’s stories like this one that may just tug at your heartstrings and make you remember what the season is really about.
A photo posted on Facebook has now gone viral for the simple gesture of kindness one Walmart employee showed to older customer at a store in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Spring Herbison Bowlin was standing in line behind a customer at Walmart who began to get flustered as he tried counting the change in his pockets to pay for his items. Bowlin wrote in his Facebook post that the man was apologetic, telling him, “I’m so sorry.” Bowlin recalled that the man’s hands and voice were shaking.
Instead of getting impatient with the customer, the cashier did something that surprised Bowlin: she took the man’s hands, dumped all the change on the counter and told him, “This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together.”
“I was moved by her actions,” Bowlin told TODAY Food. “Simple, genuine kindness is a thing of beauty.”
Bowlin said he just had to say something so he looked at the woman and said “Thank-you for being so patient with him,” to which she replied, “You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. What’s wrong with our world is we’ve forgotten how to love one another.”
“My heart was warmed at Wal-Mart during lunch,” Bowlin posted.
Now, this simple but sweet story has certainly warmed the hearts of many others, too — the Facebook post has over 73,000 likes and 40,000 shares. Comments flooded the post with people saying things like, “Wish there were more people like her!” and “What a beautiful story and reminder of how we should treat others!”
