When Daniel Craig returns for the last time as Agent 007 in the currently still untitled ‘Bond 25’ movie, he will probably have to take on a new villain … played by Rami Malek.
Malek won the Oscar for ‘best actor’ thanks to his role as Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. In the meantime he is already looking for a new job, as a Bond villain. According to the magazine ‘Collider’, Malek is in the final “last negotiations” to take on the role in the 25th James Bond print.
The makers of the film have already dropped their eyes on Malek in December, but the latter was still busy with recordings of the Emmy-winning series’ Mr. Robot’. However, since the recordings of ‘Bond 25’ were postponed several times, there is now an opening in Rami’s schedule. The film was first announced in 2017, with ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ director Danny Boyle at the helm. He left the project because of ‘creative disagreements’, which delayed production. The new release date is planned for 2020, with Cary Joji Fukunaga (known from the first season of ‘True Detective’) as a director.
The Bond franchise has the habit of picking up new Oscar winners and turning them into villains. That’s what happened with Javier Bardem and Christoph Waltz.
