‘Deadline’ knows that Olivia Wilde (36) has been roped by Sony Pictures to direct a secret Marvel film about a female character. It is not yet known which project it is, but sources are whispering that it would be a film about Spider-Woman.

Sony did not want to respond to the news , according to Deadline . The news site does report that the script is being written by Katie Silberman and that Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor will produce the film. The three ladies are currently also working together on a Christmas film for Universal.

In the comic universe of Spider-Man, the role of Spider-Woman has been filled over the years by Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew, among others. The latter was the first to go through life as the superheroine in 1977.
