Actresses Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron will star in a feature film behind the scenes of the American news channel Fox News , marked in recent years by several scandals of sexual harassment.
The actress Margot Robbie, compatriot of the Australian Nicole Kidman, is also in negotiations to join the distribution of this film produced by the independent studio Annapurna Pictures, told AFP a spokesperson of the production company, confirming information from The Hollywood Reporter.
Nicole Kidman will play journalist Gretchen Carlson, who was behind the first public sexual harassment charges against Roger Ailes, founder and CEO of Fox News , in July 2016.
The fate of Roger Ailes rocked a few weeks later when Megyn Kelly, one of the stars of the chain that will be played by Charlize Theron, said he received advances from the CEO ten years earlier.
Landed, the leader was followed, a few months later, by Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly, also accused of harassment by several women.
In October 2017, Megyn Kelly accused Fox News of having protected Bill O’Reilly for a long time despite his allegations.
According to a New York Times investigation , the channel reportedly paid several million dollars to presumed victims of the presenter to buy their silence.
Several civil cases brought by former Fox News and Fox Group associates have described several examples of advances, verbal and physical abuse, or employees and journalists treated as “whores” or “sluts”.
Several former members of the channel, employees or regular speakers on the air, also accused Fox News of having dismissed after their testimony.
The case had preceded by a few months the scandal Weinstein, who has since taken with him many officials and journalists in other channels and editorial offices.
The film will be directed by Jay Roach (“Trumbo”, “My father-in-law and me”), based on a script by Charles Randolph, co-writer of “The Big Short: the breakout of the century”, which earned an Oscar.
