Neve Campbell Confirms Return to ‘Scream’ Franchise for Seventh Installment
Neve Campbell, renowned for her portrayal of Sidney Prescott in the iconic Scream series, has made a thrilling announcement: she’s set to reprise her role in the upcoming seventh installment of the franchise.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 50-year-old actress shared her excitement with fans, posting a snapshot of a script accompanied by the caption, “I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!!”
Expressing her enduring love for the Scream movies, Campbell conveyed her gratitude for the opportunity to once again embody the resilient Sidney. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” she remarked. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me has never waned.”
Campbell further disclosed that Kevin Williamson, the mastermind behind the original 1996 Scream film, will direct the highly anticipated sequel. “While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team,” she stated, “I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7!”

Williamson himself expressed profound gratitude for the journey, acknowledging the evolution of the franchise over nearly three decades. “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven,” he reminisced. “I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise.”
This news marks a triumphant return for Campbell, who sat out the sixth entry of the series released in 2023 due to contractual disagreements. However, her openness to returning to the franchise, contingent upon the right offer, remained evident in her previous statements.
The seventh Scream film has encountered its share of setbacks in recent months, including the departure of lead actress Melissa Barrera and director Christopher Landon. Nevertheless, with Neve Campbell back in the saddle and Kevin Williamson at the helm, anticipation for Scream 7 is at an all-time high.
