The first season of the astronaut series ‘Away’ turned out to be the only one afterwards, reports the news site ‘Deadline’. The series with Hilary Swank in the lead role will not be continued on Netflix.
Why the series is cut off after one season is not known. Away was first seen on Netflix from September 4. In the United States, the series was in the top 10 of most viewed content for most of the month. The days after its first appearance, it was even number one for a while.
In the rest of the world, the series was also quite well received – in terms of viewing figures. Netflix always says it weighs the cost of a series against the global audience that watches it before making a decision about whether to extend or discontinue a series.
Away is about a space mission to Mars that lasts three years, but also about the astronauts’ missing family on Earth.
