Investigation Underway as Two Boats Collide near PortMiami, Leaving Over a Dozen Injured
Authorities are actively looking into the circumstances surrounding a boat collision that occurred on Sunday afternoon, resulting in injuries to more than a dozen individuals in the vicinity of PortMiami.
The incident, which took place around 3:15 p.m., prompted a rapid response from over 30 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, including two fireboats and an air rescue unit. Collaborating with the City of Miami Fire, the Florida Wildlife Commission, and the U.S. Coast Guard, the teams were deployed to Fisherman’s Channel near Dodge Island following reports of the collision.
As per the Coast Guard’s preliminary findings, the involved watercraft comprised a tour boat and a recreation vessel. The severity of the situation prompted an upgraded response from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue due to the high number of individuals affected and the demand for additional manpower.
CBS News Miami received information from MDFR stating that a total of 13 people were transported to a local hospital by responding agencies. Meanwhile, other patients at the scene underwent evaluations and were subsequently released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as authorities work to determine the factors that led to the collision and the subsequent injuries.
