Kourtney Kardashian Barker Channels Sister Kim’s Iconic Met Gala Maternity Look for Halloween Throwback
Kourtney Kardashian Barker, kicking off the Halloween festivities with a playful twist, transformed into her younger sister, Kim Kardashian. In a series of Instagram photos, she expertly recreated Kim’s unforgettable 2013 Met Gala maternity look. The choice seems to be a playful reference to the ongoing sibling banter about style theft.
Kourtney Kardashian Barker opted for a Halloween look that hit close to home this year. Rather than seeking inspiration from afar, the reality star delved into the fashion archive of her younger sister, Kim Kardashian.
On Friday, she shared images on her Instagram account, showcasing her rendition of one of Kim’s most talked-about Met Gala outfits—a floral creation by Riccardo Tisci that Kim donned a decade ago and received mixed reviews.
Captioning the post as “Freaky Friday,” Kardashian Barker effortlessly mimicked her sister’s iconic pose, cradling a faux baby bump while elegantly displaying her leg through the dress’s dramatic slit, precisely emulating Kim’s red carpet appearance.
The Poosh founder, who is currently expecting a child with Blink-182’s drummer, Travis Barker, even chose to wear the exact pair of heels that Kim paired with the dress. She went all the way by replicating Kim’s hair and makeup from the event, opting for a sleek low ponytail and bold red lips.
Kim Kardashian donned the form-fitting floral dress during her very first Met Gala appearance in 2013. At the time, she was heavily pregnant with her first child, North West, who is now ten years old.
In a 2019 interview with Vogue, the Skims founder opened up about the hurtful comments she received for her choice of attire and revealed how she cried “the whole way home.” However, she did receive some comforting words from fashion icons Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who mentioned that they “loved” her look.
Time seems to have softened Kim’s perspective on that moment, as she shared her older sister’s Halloween outfit on her Instagram Stories later that day, adding three clapping hand emojis to express her approval.
Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s decision to emulate her sister appears to be a light-hearted nod to the fact that the Kardashian siblings have, at times, playfully accused each other of copying their styles.
A few months after Kourtney’s wedding to musician Travis Barker in May 2022, she playfully accused Kim of borrowing elements from her gothic-themed wedding for a Dolce & Gabbana collaboration. Kim, in her witty fashion, responded by pointing out that Kourtney’s Italian wedding shared similarities with her own 2014 nuptials to Ye (formerly known as Kanye West).
As she humorously put it on “The Kardashians,” “I got married in Italy. Am I saying you copied me by getting married in Italy? Who performed at my wedding? Who performed at Kourtney’s wedding? Andrea Bocelli.” The sisters continue to keep their fans entertained with their playful banter, both on and off social media.
