Kelvin Davis Takes the Helm at Eastleigh Following Managerial Shake-Up
Former Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis has been appointed as the new manager of National League club Eastleigh. The decision comes in the wake of Richard Hill’s departure from the club, labeled as a “mutual consent” agreement after a disheartening 3-0 defeat against Ebbsfleet. The defeat extended Eastleigh’s winless streak to nine matches, prompting the need for a change in leadership.
Davis, 47, brings a wealth of experience to his managerial role, having enjoyed a distinguished 22-year playing career that included 301 appearances for Southampton among his 687 total games. Originating his career at Luton, where he played over 100 matches, Davis later moved to Wimbledon in 1999, accumulating 147 games for the Dons before spells at Ipswich Town and Sunderland.
The former goalkeeper’s association with Southampton extends beyond his playing days, as he has previously served in coaching roles at the club. Davis also contributed his coaching expertise to Lincoln City.
Assuming the role of assistant manager alongside Davis is Danny Butterfield, who was most recently the assistant head coach at Lincoln.
As Eastleigh currently sits in 15th place in the league standings, the newly appointed management duo faces the immediate challenge of a match against bottom side Oxford City on Tuesday. The club and its fans will be eager to witness the impact of Davis and Butterfield as they strive to turn the team’s fortunes around.
