Embracing Love and Healing: Kelly Rizzo’s Journey After Loss
Kelly Rizzo is bravely addressing critics who questioned her decision to embark on a new chapter of love following the tragic passing of her late husband, Bob Saget, two years ago.
On February 4, Rizzo made a public appearance at a Grammys viewing party alongside “Clueless” star Breckin Meyer. During an interview with E! News, she shared the profound emotions that led her to feel comfortable dating again after Saget’s death, saying, “It took a while to get to the point where I’m like, ‘OK, I think he’d be happy with it.’”
However, Rizzo faced scrutiny on March 10 when she disclosed on TikTok that comments criticizing the pace of her new relationship were flooding in. In response to a supportive comment defending her, she emphasized the complexity of grieving and moving forward, stating, “For those saying she moved ‘too fast,’ how long should she wait? It’s been two years. He’s not coming back. She should be able to have happiness.”
Acknowledging the positive feedback she received since Saget’s passing, Rizzo passionately defended her choices, particularly targeting those who haven’t experienced the unique challenges of losing a spouse. She stressed, “Unless you are a widow or widower, you truly have absolutely no place, no right to comment on this because you do not know what it’s like.”
Opening up about the internal struggle she faced, Rizzo revealed the conflicting emotions of guilt, shame, and loneliness that accompany thoughts of dating after a spouse’s death. She explained the careful consideration she gave to the timing, waiting approximately 18 months after Saget’s untimely death before deciding to put herself out there again.
Rizzo highlighted the diversity in individuals’ grieving processes, emphasizing the importance of honoring personal feelings while receiving love, support, and trust from the departed spouse’s loved ones and friends.
Expressing initial concerns about finding someone who understood her unique situation, Rizzo praised her current boyfriend, Breckin Meyer, for actively incorporating her late husband into their conversations. She shared, “(Meyer) always asks questions about him and keeps him a part of the conversation. And that means so much to me, because I knew that I was going to have to find somebody who just got it. And fortunately, I was lucky enough to find that.”
In a hopeful message at the end, Rizzo expressed her desire to continue conversations about dating as a widow, shedding light on the complexities and nuances of this emotional journey.
Speaking with E! News, Rizzo felt empowered to go public with her new relationship, thanks to the support and blessing from Saget’s three adult daughters. Their encouragement has been a guiding force as she navigates this newfound chapter of love.
Breckin Meyer, a versatile actor and comedian, has been a supportive partner for Rizzo. Meyer, known for his roles in “Garfield,” “Clueless,” and more, has demonstrated understanding and empathy, having been married to screenwriter and director Deborah Kaplan from 2001 to 2014.
Reflecting on the tragic loss of Bob Saget, Rizzo has memorialized him through heartfelt tributes and even accepted an award on his behalf. As she marks the one-year anniversary of his passing, Rizzo continues to find strength and support from her late husband’s “Full House” co-stars.
In interviews with Extra and Fox News Digital, Rizzo shared her openness to the possibility of dating again, expressing gratitude for Saget’s daughters who granted their blessing for her to find happiness once more. Their trust and love have provided Rizzo with the comfort and encouragement to embark on this journey towards healing and love after loss.
