Kelly Clarkson’s Daughter, River Rose, Joins Mom in Heartfelt Duet on “You Don’t Make Me Cry”
In a heartwarming and unexpected collaboration, Kelly Clarkson enlisted the talents of her nine-year-old daughter, River Rose, for a special duet titled “You Don’t Make Me Cry.” The song is featured on the deluxe edition of Clarkson’s latest album, Chemistry, which was released on September 22.
The track begins with River Rose showcasing her vocal prowess with a heavily auto-tuned vocal run, infusing the song with a nostalgic early-2010s pop vibe. The catchy and atmospheric production, coupled with piano elements, continues to captivate listeners throughout the song. As with many tracks on Chemistry, Clarkson delivers a powerful performance, belting out the chorus with lyrics that convey raw emotion: “And you don’t make me cry/And I cry at everything/You don’t make me feel and I feel more than most now/That says something, doesn’t it?/So I’m picking you from my garden, weeds aren’t allowed in/Guess you missed that.”
River Rose’s participation doesn’t end with her impressive vocal debut; she reappears at the end of the song, adding a delightful finishing touch by simply saying “The End.” This charming addition to the track is a rare and endearing surprise.
The release of “You Don’t Make Me Cry” comes shortly after River and her younger brother, Remington Alexander, joined Kelly Clarkson on stage during one of the final shows of her Las Vegas residency. During this memorable performance, Clarkson revealed that it was her children who had expressed their desire to appear on stage. Both children eagerly embraced the opportunity, with Remington dancing his way through Clarkson’s hit “Whole Lotta Woman,” and River joining her mom for a touching rendition of “Heartbreak Song” from 2015.
“You Don’t Make Me Cry” is just one of eight bonus tracks featured on the deluxe edition of Chemistry. Other new songs included in the release are “I Won’t Give Up,” “Did You Know,” “Goodbye,” and “Roses.” Additionally, Clarkson treats fans to a David Guetta remix of “Favorite Kind of High” and a Ty Sunderland remix of “Mine.” To top it off, the deluxe edition includes a live performance of “Mine” from an earlier show at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles.
Kelly Clarkson has several live performances lined up in the near future, including an appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 23. She will also grace the stage at Audacy’s “We Can Survive” concert in Newark, New Jersey, on October 14, ensuring that fans have plenty of opportunities to experience her incredible talent and heartwarming family collaborations in person.
