According to Deadline, Keira Knightley got a role in another historical drama in her career – it is about the adaptation of Sarah Perry’s novel “The Essex Serpent”. See-Saw Films will be producing the film for Apple TV +. It will be directed by Cleo Barnard (Egoist Giant, Dark River) and adaptation of the script will be directed by Anna Simon (Mrs. Wilson).
“The Essex Serpent” tells the story of a newly widowed woman named Cora (Knightley) who suffered violence from her husband during her marriage. Finding freedom after his death, Cora moves from Victorian London to the small village of Oldwinter in Essex. The heroine is intrigued by the local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to this land. The novel is set in 1893, and the book itself was published in 2016, winning the British National Book Prize.
We will remind, Keira Knightley is known for her roles in costumed historical films. Previously, the actress starred in such films as Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess and Anna Karenina. In the case of The Essex Serpent, Knightley will also serve as one of the executive producers.
