Jon Bon Jovi, the iconic frontman of the band Bon Jovi, is gearing up for a potential return to touring after undergoing vocal cord surgery in 2022.
Despite having an album set for release in June, the 62-year-old singer is still in recovery mode and uncertain about hitting the road to promote it.
In a recent interview with Boston’s Mix 104.1 radio station, Jon expressed his desire to embark on a tour next year, but acknowledged the challenges of recuperating from a significant surgical procedure. Describing the state of his vocal cords, Jon revealed that one had become as thick as his thumb, while the other had atrophied to the thickness of his pinky. However, thanks to a cutting-edge implant provided by his surgeon, Jon is gradually rebuilding his vocal strength.
While Jon can still sing, he admits that he’s not yet at a level where he can sustain the demands of a full-fledged tour, which typically spans hours of performances multiple times a week. Despite this setback, Jon remains determined to achieve his goal of returning to the stage and entertaining fans for months on end.
The band, which hasn’t toured since 2022 due to Jon’s health issues, is commemorating its 40th anniversary, and Jon is steadfast in his efforts to make a comeback. Their 16th studio album, “Legendary,” is slated for release on June 7, promising a return to the signature feel-good Bon Jovi sound.
In addition to the album release, Bon Jovi fans can also look forward to an upcoming Hulu docuseries titled “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” set to premiere on April 26. This documentary, made in collaboration with all past and present band members, including former guitarist Richie Sambora, provides an intimate look into the band’s journey over the decades.
Despite their history, Jon revealed that he’s no longer in contact with Sambora, emphasizing that his absence from the band for over a decade has created a distance. Nonetheless, Jon maintains that there’s still love and appreciation for their shared experiences.
As anticipation builds for the new album and documentary, Jon Bon Jovi remains focused on his recovery and the possibility of returning to the stage to share his music with fans once again.
