In the highly anticipated sequel to the iconic Tron film series, titled Tron: Ares, some exciting additions have been announced for the cast. Joining the project are Jodie Turner-Smith, known for her role in the acclaimed film Queen & Slim, as well as Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters.
Tron: Ares, the third installment of Disney’s groundbreaking movie series, will continue to push the boundaries of technology. The film is set to commence filming in August in Vancouver, with Joachim Ronning, known for his work on Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, taking the director’s chair.
The original Tron film was released by Disney in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a video game designer who gets transported into his own creation and teams up with Tron, portrayed by Bruce Boxleitner. In 2010, a sequel titled Tron: Legacy was released, featuring Bridges reprising his role.
While the previous movies primarily took place within the realm of computers and programs, Tron: Ares will delve into a new narrative. The script, penned by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, will focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world, which is unprepared for such contact.
Jared Leto, who has been attached to the project for some time, will portray Ares, the embodiment of the sentient program. Greta Lee will have a significant role as a video game programmer and tech CEO. However, the character Jodie Turner-Smith will be portraying has not yet been revealed.
Producing the film through their company Paradox are Emma Ludbrook and Jared Leto, alongside Justin Springer and Jeffrey Silver. Russell Allen is serving as the executive producer.
Prior to joining Tron: Ares, Jodie Turner-Smith showcased her talent in various television projects such as TNT’s drama The Last Ship and Syfy’s space horror drama Nightflyers. However, it was her performance in Queen & Slim that garnered her considerable acclaim. The film, directed by Melina Matsoukas and featuring a script by Lena Waithe, firmly established Turner-Smith as a rising star in the industry.
Recently, she appeared in the Netflix film Murder Mystery 2 alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. Turner-Smith’s upcoming project includes an appearance in the Star Wars series The Acolyte, which will be released on Disney+.
