Jennifer Lopez felt disappointed when it turned out that she had not received an Oscar nomination for her role in Hustlers. The 50-year-old pop star and actress told about this in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“There were so many articles and good reviews – more than ever in my career – that said things like” oh, she’s nominated for an Oscar, it’s going to happen, “said Lopez. “And when that didn’t happen then, it hurt a bit. It was disappointing.”
According to Lopez, she got that sad feeling because she needs a lot of confirmation from others. “I wanted other people to tell me that I had done a good job,” she explains. “Then I realized that I shouldn’t need that at all, because I do this work because I love it. I don’t need a price to know I’m enough.”
Hustlers tells the story of a group of strippers who, in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, find a way to steal money from the rich bankers they encounter in bars and clubs. Lopez plays the role of Ramona, a talented stripper who takes on lead character Destiny (played by Constance Wu).
Lopez did not receive an Oscar nomination for this role, but she did receive many other prizes and nominations. Among other things, she has been nominated for a Razzie Redeemer Award: an award for actors who previously won a Razzie for their poor acting performance, but who have been refurbished with a new film project.
