Jennifer Lawrence has decided to clarify the rumors. The actress, known for her role in “No Hard Feelings,” firmly denied any suggestion that she had a romantic involvement with Liam Hemsworth while he was still in a relationship with Miley Cyrus.
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live on Monday, the Oscar winner addressed various topics, including her past red carpet choices and the dramatic events on Vanderpump Rules. In the midst of the conversation, Lawrence participated in another round of “Plead the Fifth.”
Cohen seized the opportunity to inquire about the speculation that Cyrus had subtly referenced Lawrence in her music video for “Flowers,” hinting at a potential affair between Lawrence and Hemsworth. However, even before Cohen could complete the question, Lawrence swiftly shut down the notion.
“That’s not true,” Lawrence interjected, putting an end to the speculation. “I’d love to address it, but it’s simply not true. It’s a complete rumor.”
The rumors emerged due to a scene in Cyrus’ “Flowers” music video, which many fans interpreted as a breakup anthem aimed at her former husband Hemsworth. In the video, Cyrus wears a gold dress that vaguely resembles a dress Lawrence had worn during a Hunger Games premiere, where she appeared alongside Hemsworth.
Jennifer Lawrence further added to the conversation during a previous appearance on WWHL, where she hinted at sharing an off-screen kiss with Hemsworth while they were filming. However, Lawrence doesn’t believe there should be any animosity directed towards her.
“Let’s be honest, we all know that Liam and I shared a kiss once,” Lawrence admitted with a smile. “But it happened years after their breakup.”
“I just assume it was purely coincidental,” she remarked, referring to Cyrus’ gold dress in the music video.
As Lawrence continued to answer questions, posed by Cohen, she also took the opportunity to address a past romantic relationship: “On a scale from one to utterly bewildered, how much did you actually understand your character as a film mother? Please, be honest.”
“To be completely honest,” Lawrence candidly revealed, “I had a bit of an advantage. I was involved with the director at the time, so I had the CliffsNotes version. So, I’d say a solid five or maybe four.”
Lawrence had been in a relationship with director Darren Aronofsky, whom she met and developed a connection with while working on a surreal horror film in 2016. However, they went their separate ways in November 2017.
“So, if anyone needs some pointers on understanding their own films, you know who to ask,” Lawrence quipped playfully, accompanied by a mischievous wink.
After taking a break from acting to focus on starting a family, Lawrence is now making her return to filmmaking. In October 2019, she tied the knot with her husband Cooke Maroney, and they now have a one-year-old son named Cy.
