Rami Malek and Charlie Hunnam will be the stars of Papillon, the remake of a film where prisoners try to escape from a prison on an island.
And while here comes a new remake. Papillon, it’s his name, is a film coming this summer without any more precision for the moment which, in spite of his taste of warmed up, looks promising. Heated, because this feature film based on Banco and Henri Charriere’s novel “autobiographical fictionalized” of the same name (1969) has already been adapted in 1973 with Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen at its head. In 2018, charge to Rami Malek ( Mr. Robot ) and Charlie Hunnam ( Sons of Anarchy ) to revive this story.
An autobiographical story to the veracity questioned
Directed this time by the Danish Michael Noer ( R ) and scripted by Aaron Guzikoswski ( Prisoners ), Papillon is interested in Henry “Butterfly” Charrière (Hunnam), a piercer Paris vault of the 30s wrongly accused of a murder and sentenced to life imprisonment on the famous prison colony of Devil’s Island. On the island he will cross the road of Louis Dega (Malek), a guilty convicted counterfeiter who will help him escape in exchange for his protection.
The rest of the cast will be attended by Michael Socha, Roland Moller, Tommy Flanagan, Eve Hewson or Ian Beattie. In short, the trailer and the 1973 film by Franklin J. Schaffner for the curious.
