DF Reveals Video of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar’s Escape Through Underground Tunnel Network
In a recent development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a compelling video capturing the escape of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar through an intricate tunnel network just days after the group’s ruthless attack on Israel on October 7.
The IDF claimed to have obtained the footage in the aftermath of special units uncovering a hidden tunnel, situated dozens of meters below ground in the Khan Yunis area of the Gaza Strip. The video, sourced from a Hamas security camera installed within the tunnel, depicts Sinwar making a getaway with his children and one of his wives, led by his brother Ibrahim Sinwar. The family is seen escaping to one of Hamas’ pre-built safe complexes.
Recorded on October 10, a mere three days after the deadly incursion into Israel, the video sheds light on Sinwar’s underground hideout equipped with essential facilities. IDF Spokesperson, RDML Daniel Hagari, strongly condemned Sinwar’s actions, stating, “While the people are suffering above ground, Sinwar is hiding in tunnels, running like the coward that he is. Hamas leaders care about their own families and money. They don’t care about anything else. Yahya Sinwar is only interested in his own survival at the expense of the people of Gaza.”
Hagari asserted that Hamas has been “compromised” and pledged to dismantle the terrorist group. He warned, “Hamas leaders, wherever they’re hiding, they’re on borrowed time. We will do everything in our power to fulfill our mission,” emphasizing the need to free hostages from Hamas and liberate Gaza from its control.
Additional footage released by the IDF showcased a tour of Sinwar’s underground hideout, revealing amenities such as a kitchen, indoor plumbing, and a safe containing millions of shekels and dollars. The release of these videos coincides with ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas, aiming for a cease-fire and the release of hostages. Israel has made it clear that dismantling Hamas’ governing and military capabilities remains a primary objective.
IDF Spokesman: At a depth of tens of meters underground, we located a recording of Sinwar from a security camera that was there. We are on the hunt for him and will capture him dead or alive pic.twitter.com/ibxht0ZX7o

The conflict, initiated after a violent incursion led by thousands of Hamas militants on October 7, has resulted in unprecedented destruction in the Gaza Strip. Conflicting figures on casualties have emerged, with the Hamas-run Health Ministry reporting over 28,000 deaths, predominantly women and minors. Israel disputes these figures, attributing the high death toll to Hamas’ presence in densely populated residential areas and asserting compliance with international law.
As negotiations progress, tensions rise, and Israel contemplates expanding its offensive to Gaza’s southern edge, the region braces for potential escalation in the ongoing conflict.
