Last Surviving ‘Honeymooners’ Cast Member, Joyce Randolph, Dies at 99
Joyce Randolph, the final surviving member of The Honeymooners cast, has passed away at the age of 99. Her son confirmed her death due to natural causes on Saturday in New York City, according to TMZ.
On the classic sitcom, which aired from 1955 to 1956 on CBS, Randolph portrayed Trixie Norton, the wife of Ed Norton played by Art Carney. The show depicted the daily lives of two working-class couples in New York City: Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) and his wife Alice (Audrey Meadows), and Trixie and Ed. Trixie first appeared on The Jackie Gleason Show in 1952 and continued until 1957.
Despite its brief one-season run, The Honeymooners became a timeless comedy, inspiring spinoffs and reboots over the years. In 2005, it was adapted into a film featuring Cedric the Entertainer, Gabrielle Union, Mike Epps, and Regina Hall. In 2016, there were reports of CBS working on a reboot under the direction of The Muppets’ Bob Kushell. In 2022, CBS announced plans for a female-driven “reimagining” of the iconic series.
Beyond her role in The Honeymooners, Randolph made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Plainclothesman, The Doctors and the Nurses, Hi Honey, I’m Home, and various other productions. Her contributions to the entertainment industry left a lasting impact on audiences, and her portrayal of Trixie Norton remains a cherished part of television history.
