American writer, producer, director and actor Carl Reiner passed away on Monday night at the age of 98, TMZ reports Tuesday. Reiner is best known as the creator and actor of The Dick Van Dyke Show , but has also appeared in several Hollywood films. He died on Monday evening in front of his family.
During his career spanning seven decades, Reiner was one of the most prolific entertainers in film history. He has acted in some 100 productions and has received some of the major industry awards, including nine Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award and The Mark Twain Prize.
The entertainer co-wrote and directed some of Steve Martin’s most successful comedies, including Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid , Man with Two Brains and All of Me .
He has also appeared in series such as Hot in Cleveland , Two and a Half Men and House and in films such as The Russians are Coming and Ocean’s Eleven , Twelve and Thirteen . His most recent film role was as the voice of a pink rhinoceros called Carl Reineroceros in Toy Story 4 .
Reiner leaves behind three children, including Rob Reiner, who also became an actor and is known for films such as Stand by Me , When Harry Met Sally … and A Few Good Men .
