Alec Baldwin (64) is again facing a lawsuit after the fatal shooting on the film set of ‘Rust’. The parents and sister of victim Halyna Hutchins are suing the actor and others involved in the shooting of the film.
The family accuses the production of the film of violating various safety measures, TMZ reports based on the indictment. The relatives of the camerawoman demand compensation for an undisclosed amount.
The Public Prosecution Service in the US state of New Mexico will officially charge the 64-year-old at the end of January, just like Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the gun responsible for the film. They are charged with involuntary manslaughter. If found guilty with aggravating circumstances, they could face up to five years in prison. Hutchins’ widower also went to court in February last year. However, that case, which revolves around who is guilty of Hutchins’ death, is settled with a settlement.
The shooting incident took place on the set of the October 2021 western. Alec was practicing with a revolver, which should have been unloaded. The gun went off anyway and Hutchins was fatally struck in the chest. Director Joel Souza was also injured, but survived the shooting. The 64-year-old actor says he did not know that the weapon was loaded.
