Gillian Anderson has been cast for the role of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of The Crown , reports the Twitter account of the Netflix series Saturday.
“I think it’s fantastic to be able to join the cast and crew of The Crown and get the chance to put down such a complicated and controversial person,” Anderson says.
“Thatcher was undoubtedly great, but at the moment I particularly enjoy exploring what was going on below her and, dare I say, fall in love with this icon that, whether loved or despised, was an era has defined. “
Anderson is best known for her role as FBI agent Dana Scully in the series The X-Files . She has also appeared in the series The Fall , Sex Education , Hannibal and American Gods .
The third season of the drama series The Crown can be seen on November 17 on Netflix. In the new season, the series on the history of the British royal family picks up the thread again in 1964, the year in which The Beatles become famous and two years before England becomes world football champion.
The third series will illuminate the royal family until 1977. It is not yet known when the fourth season will be shown.
