Germany is preparing to start negotiations with Russia on the purchase of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, but the final procurement decision will depend on the decision of the European regulator. Reported by Reuters .
According to the agency, German Health Minister Jens Spahn said at a virtual conference that Berlin itself will begin preliminary negotiations with Moscow. First of all, he is interested in how much and when Russia can supply the drug.
At the same time, Spahn said that Germany would purchase the Russian vaccine only after the approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Earlier, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz allowed registration in the country of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V” bypassing the European Union . According to him, the country may make such a decision if the approval of the vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is delayed.
The Russian drug “Sputnik V” was developed by the Gamaleya Research Center for Electrochemistry and became the world’s first registered vaccine based on the human adenovirus. Currently, the development of Russian scientists is among the ten best vaccine candidates in the list of the World Health Organization (WHO). In Russia, the vaccination campaign started on December 5, 2020.
