The English football club Derby County may be bought by George Clooney (60). According to the newspaper ‘The Sun’, the American actor has serious interest in becoming the owner of the club where former English football player Wayne Rooney (36) is the head coach with a consortium.
“Perhaps owning a football club is the second most beautiful thing there is after playing football for a team at this level”
The actor was introduced to the club by his British colleague Jack O’Connell, who hails from the Derby district. George already called the club an ‘association with a great history’.
The financial problems at the club must be solved. “Then nothing stands in the way of a bright future,” said George, explaining why he may want to take over the club. “Perhaps owning a football club is the second most beautiful thing there is after playing football for a team at this level. Who knows.”
Derby County has been up for sale for months. Coach Wayne called the current situation “terrible.” The club is in the second tier in England and is last in line after already having been deducted 21 points during the season for breaching the financial rules.
