Florida Mother Set for Trial After 10-Year-Old Daughter Fatally Shoots Neighbor
In a tragic incident that unfolded at Jernigan Gardens apartments in Orlando on May 30, 2022, a 10-year-old girl allegedly shot and killed Lashuan Rodgers, 41, following a dispute involving her mother, Lakrisha Isaac, 31. Court documents reveal that Lakrisha Isaac now faces trial on April 29, 2023, charged with manslaughter, culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and aggravated assault with a firearm.
According to police reports, the altercation began when an intoxicated Isaac confronted Rodgers, who was barbecuing with a man for Memorial Day weekend. A physical altercation ensued, during which Isaac allegedly threw the first punch. After being separated, Rodgers reportedly returned to confront Isaac. It was at this point that Isaac’s 10-year-old daughter allegedly fired two shots at Rodgers, who succumbed to her injuries.
Isaac’s daughter was taken into custody that night, and although her current situation remains undisclosed due to her age, her mother posted bond on October 6, 2022.
Eyewitnesses at the scene provided crucial information to the Orlando police, leading to the arrest of Isaac and her daughter the following morning. In police interrogations, the 10-year-old girl claimed to have obtained the firearm from an adult friend of Isaac’s who was present during the incident. Motivated by anger and the threat posed to her family, the girl admitted to shooting Rodgers in the head, acknowledging her awareness of the fatal outcome.
Isaac, exercising her constitutional rights, invoked her right to legal representation before any questioning by the police. The upcoming trial will shed further light on the tragic events surrounding the untimely death of Lashuan Rodgers.
