Famke Janssen has been given a role in a mini-series about the Central Park Five case. The series, which airs on Netflix, is based on a true story in which five dark teenagers were unfairly convicted of rape in Central Park, New York.
The rape case occupied New York and the whole of the United States during the late eighties and early nineties. The series follows the five Harlem teenagers from the moment they were questioned about the incident for the first time in the spring of 1989.
On the evening of April 19, 1989, a 29-year-old white woman was attacked, assaulted and brutally raped while jogging. The woman lay in a coma for twelve days. The five dark boys were condemned for this solely on the basis of accusations and false accusations according to them. In 2014, the five pass were acquitted.
The 53-year-old Janssen will play the role of Nancy Ryan, the prosecutor who led the reopened investigation. In the series, directed by Ava DuVernay, Chris Chalk, Joshua Jackson, Adepero Oduye, Jharrel Jerome and Jovan Adepo play important roles.
Comingsoon.net reports that the filming of the series started this week in New York. The intention of Netflix is to offer the mini-series in 2019 on the platform.
