Inspired by Richard Vasquez’s 1970 novel, he will follow a family who migrated from Mexico to Los Angeles from 1920 to the present day.
Canena ABC is developing a new drama by executive producer Eva Longoria, titled “Chicano.
The series focuses on the Sandoval family, a Mexican American family that migrates to Los Angeles in search of the American dream. The multigenerational project, inspired by Richard Vasquez’s 1970 novel, will follow the family from 1920 to the present day.
“Chicano is just the first of many projects we look forward to from Eva and fellow executive producer Ben Spector, as we seek to increase our Latinx programming roster,” ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said in a statement. “As part of our study family, they are valuable partners in helping us expand our engagement with compelling stories for underrepresented communities.”
Natalie Chaidez (The Queen of the South) will write the pilot and serve as executive producer alongside Longoria, Spector, Forest Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi and Doug Pray.
