Emily Ratajkowski’s Weight Loss Journey: How It Impacted Her Modeling Career and Mental Health
In a recent episode of her podcast, “High Low With EmRata,” Emily Ratajkowski candidly shared her experiences during a challenging period in her life, where she faced significant weight loss following the birth of her son, Sylvester, and her separation from Sebastian Bear-McClard last year.
The model and actress revealed, “I got so thin after Sly,” highlighting the physical toll this period took on her. Emily even went as far as calculating her Body Mass Index (BMI) and recognized that her health was in jeopardy due to her extreme thinness.
What adds a unique dimension to her story is that, despite her deteriorating physical and mental health, Emily found herself receiving more modeling opportunities during this difficult time. She expressed her concerns, saying, “Let me tell you, by the way, I was working a lot, which is scary… Make your judgments about the industry based on that.”
Emily Ratajkowski had previously addressed her journey towards self-acceptance in her book of essays, “My Body.” In it, she described how her “drastic weight loss” led her to appreciate her health and body. “I felt like I was just this inconsequential person. I felt like I didn’t take up space, and it made me appreciate the fullness of my body when I’m healthy,” she added.
In a previous interview on the “Going Mental” podcast, Emily also spoke candidly about her difficult marriage, saying, “I didn’t have the courage to leave for a long time. I was really, really unhappy.” Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the complexities of mental health and self-image, even in the world of glamour and modeling.
