Elaine Chao has been selected as Transportation Secretary by newly Elect President Donald Trump. Elaine Chao is former labour secretary and she is also wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Under President W. Bush Elaine Chao served as secretary of labor from 2001 to 2009. She was married to McConnell since 1993. Elaine Chao was the first Asian-American woman to serve in the Cabinet Position.
Under president H. W. Bush Elaine Chao also served as deputy Secretary for transportation from 1989 to 1991.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky said in an interview that “I am so proud of Elaine as she continues her accomplished career in public service. I am confident she will do an outstanding job for the nation in this new and important role.”
According to a statement given by House Speaker Paul Ryan “She is a conservative reformer with unrivaled experience and a great passion for improving the lives of working families. We will be particularly fortunate to have Elaine leading the charge as we work to ensure America has the infrastructure needed to keep our economy moving in the 21st century,”.
