In an exciting announcement by Universal Pictures on Thursday, it has been confirmed that Dwayne Johnson will be making his highly anticipated return to the “Fast and Furious” universe.
Johnson will reprise his beloved role as Luke Hobbs in a new standalone film, which will be written by Chris Morgan, a longtime collaborator of the franchise. While specific plot details are currently under wraps, insiders familiar with the project have revealed that the movie will serve as a bridge between the recently released “Fast X” and the upcoming “Fast X: Part II,” slated for a 2025 release. Fans were thrilled to catch a glimpse of Johnson as Hobbs in a post-credits scene of “Fast X,” and now they can look forward to an entire film dedicated to his character’s thrilling adventures.
The upcoming standalone film featuring Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs will see a collaborative effort from a talented team of producers. Johnson, along with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, will produce the film through their production company Seven Bucks Productions. Joining them are Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent from One Race Films, as well as Chris Morgan from Chris Morgan Productions, Jeff Kirschenbaum from Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, and Neal Moritz from Original Film.
Screenwriter Chris Morgan, known for his previous work on films like “Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” and “The Fate of the Furious,” will once again lend his writing expertise to this project. In addition to his writing contributions, Morgan has also served as a producer on several entries in the franchise, including the fifth, sixth, and seventh films.
The highly anticipated “Fast X,” directed by Louis Leterrier, made a remarkable impact upon its release in May, capturing the top spot at the global box office with an impressive $320 million. It quickly became the second-highest-grossing global opening of 2023.
Dwayne Johnson is represented by WME (William Morris Endeavor) as his agency, and his legal matters are handled by Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman, Inc. His public relations and media relations are managed by The Lede Company.
Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, has been involved in co-producing notable films such as Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” and upcoming DC Studios projects like “Black Adam” and “DC League of Super-Pets.” In addition to film productions, Seven Bucks has also ventured into original series, including NBC’s “Young Rock” and the athletic competition series “The Titan Games.”
Looking ahead, Johnson has exciting projects lined up. He will both produce and star in “Red One” at Amazon Studios and is also involved in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s “Moana.”
