Disney calls Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against the company “sad and disturbing”. The actress, who will star in the new Disney film Black Widow, is angry because the film has been released on the company’s streaming service and in cinemas simultaneously. That, she said, was not the deal.
According to Disney, Johansson’s action is an “insensitive disregard for the horrific and long-lasting global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
Johansson claims that her contract states that the film would be screened exclusively in theaters. Part of the proceeds would go to the 36-year-old actress. Because people on Disney + can now also watch the film, the amount for Johansson is a lot lower.
20 million dollars
However, Disney claims that there is no mention of that in the contract. According to the company, the actress has already received 20 million dollars (16.8 million euros) for her work and would already have been “amply compensated” for releasing the film on Disney+.
In its opening weekend, the film Black Widow attracted quite a few people to American and Canadian cinemas. With a revenue of 80 million dollars, Black Widow provided the best opening weekend of a film since the start of the corona crisis.
