Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz was shot and wounded in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
His father Leo Ortiz confirmed the information to the ESPN network on Sunday night.
“I was phoned to say that David was injured and he was taken to the hospital, but I do not know where he is,” he said. Everything is confused right now. “
According to the latest information obtained, one of Ortiz’s legs would have been affected. A suspect was arrested.
Ortiz would have been hit by a projectile while he was in a restaurant-bar. The 43-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital. The severity of his condition is not known at the moment. No further details were given about the health of the former Boston Red Sox.

David Ortiz has played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball, including 14 with Boston. The 43-year-old athlete slammed 541 circuits during his career. He won the World Series three times -2004, 2007 and 2013-before retiring in 2016.
He has participated 10 times in the All-Star Game and was named World Series MVP in 2004 and 2013.
