Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning will play each other’s sisters for the first time in a movie. The actresses are cast for the lead roles in the book adaptation of The Nightingale, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.
The sisters were previously shown together in the film I Am Sam and the series Taken. Then 21-year-old Elle played the younger version of her older sister Dakota (25).
In the film, directed by Mélanie Laurent and based on a novel by Kristin Hannah, they play two sisters living in France, just before the Second World War. Hannah based the story on stories of women from the French resistance.
“It will be the first time we act together”, the sisters say in a statement. “We played the same character in a movie, but never talked to each other in front of a movie camera. We’ve been looking for years for a movie where we could do this, and then this gem came along.”
Elle recently appeared in Mistress of Evil , the sequel to the Disney movie Maleficent. Dakota recently played a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood .
