Robyn Bernard, the esteemed actress renowned for her portrayal of Terry Brock on the iconic soap opera “General Hospital,” passed away at the age of 64 on Tuesday in San Jacinto, Calif.
Confirming her demise, the Riverside County Sheriff’s department announced on Wednesday that Bernard was discovered in an open field behind a local business. The exact cause of her death remains undisclosed, prompting local detectives to launch an investigation into the circumstances.
Born on May 26, 1959, in Gladewater, Texas, Bernard exhibited a passion for performance from a tender age. Initially making waves in the entertainment scene alongside her younger sister Crystal, who later found fame on the sitcom “Wings,” Bernard commenced her acting career under the pseudonym Bernard Robin. Her first notable role came in Jean-Jacques Beneix’s stylish 1981 French sensation “Diva.”
Her talent propelled her to guest appearances on several television series, including “Whiz Kids,” “The Facts of Life,” and “Simon and Simon.”
Bernard’s definitive breakthrough came with her stint on “General Hospital” in September 1984. Over the course of 16 years on the long-running drama, she portrayed the spirited Terry Brock, also known as Terry O’Connor. Her character grappled with a debilitating drinking problem that thwarted her music aspirations. Bernard bid farewell to the show in March 1990 when Terry secured a recording contract and departed Port Charles.
Simultaneously with her tenure on “General Hospital,” Bernard reunited with Beneix for a minor role in his 1986 French romance “Betty Blue,” which earned critical acclaim and garnered nominations for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and a BAFTA.
Following her tenure on “General Hospital,” Bernard’s acting endeavors became sporadic. She made appearances in the French miniseries “Maigret” in 1992 and starred in the Gallic film “Kings for a Day” in 1997. Her final on-screen portrayal was as a psychologist in the 2002 film “Voices from High School.”
Bernard is survived by her sisters Crystal and Scarlett, along with her father Jerry Wayne Bernard. Her passing marks a significant loss to the entertainment industry, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances cherished by fans worldwide.
