The makers of the film Serenity would have liked it differently, but the premiere of the thriller in the American cinemas yielded ‘only’ 4.8 million dollars (4.2 million euros) last weekend. For American standards, that is a big flop. The film, in which actors Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey play the leading roles, cost $ 25 million to make.
The poor yield may have to do with the bad reviews that the film received last week. Critics were “not impressed” by the film and complained about the unbelievable twists and the bad script.
The proceeds from Serenity stood out sharply at the most lucrative film of the weekend. The film Glass by The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable director M. Night Shyamalan generated 16.8 million euro in the second weekend after publication.
