Controversy Surrounds American Porn Actor Whitney Wright’s Alleged Promotion of Iranian Propaganda During Recent Visit
In a surprising turn of events, American adult film star Whitney Wright has come under scrutiny for allegedly promoting propaganda on behalf of the Iranian government during her recent visit to the Islamic Republic. The accusations surfaced after Wright proudly shared details of her trip on social media, including photos taken at sensitive locations such as the closed US embassy.
Iranian authorities, however, have distanced themselves from any involvement in Wright’s visit, asserting that she was granted a visa like any other foreign citizen, with no prior knowledge of her controversial profession. The Iranian government labeled her profession as “obscene.”
Wright’s posts, showcasing her adherence to Iran’s strict Islamic dress code, have sparked outrage among Iranian exiles, especially considering her past vocal criticism of Iran’s arch-enemy, Israel. Her observance of the dress code follows the 2022 nationwide protests against the mandatory hijab, triggered by the police custody death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022.
Prominent US-based Iranian dissident Masih Alinejad expressed her discontent, stating, “American porn star Whitney Wright is in Iran, my birth country, where women are killed for simply showing their hair and being true to themselves.” Alinejad highlighted Wright’s adherence to the dress code, emphasizing that Iranian women reject such discriminatory laws.
At the closed US embassy, Wright posed next to a flagpole with a torn US flag on the ground. Dressed in accordance with the Islamic dress code, she presented a stark contrast to her usual revealing attire, garnering attention from her one million Instagram followers.
The Association Femme Azadi, a France-based organization advocating for Iranian women’s rights, claimed, “Whitney Wright, an American porn star was invited to Tehran to promote the Islamic republic,” expressing concern over the controversial visit.

Despite Tehran’s denial of knowledge about her trip, foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani acknowledged that, despite political tensions, Americans are not forbidden from visiting Iran. Reports suggest that Wright was not invited by any organization in Iran, and the visa system was unaware of the nature of her profession.
Wright defended her trip, questioning the criticism surrounding her images, which have since been removed from social media. She stated, “Posting photos of my Iran trip now means I’m pushing Iran propaganda? Just sharing what I saw on the inside and outside.”
While Iranian reports confirm that Wright has already left the country, the duration of her stay remains unclear. Her regional tour also included visits to Egypt, Lebanon, and Morocco. This incident is not the first time a porn star has sparked controversy with a visit to Iran, recalling the 2016 visit of British adult entertainment actor Candy Charms for cosmetic surgery.
