Alec Baldwin appeared in public for the first time since the fatal shooting incident on the set of the film Rust on Thursday . The actor hosted the Ripple of Hope Award Gala charity event.

“Thank you everyone for coming. My wife and I have six children, so I do everything I can to get out of the house for even thirty minutes,” said the actor in his opening speech.

Baldwin attended the event along with his wife Hilaria. In his presentation he spoke about Robert F. Kennedy, the creator of the event that is all about world peace.

At the end of October, a loaded gun inadvertently went off on the set of Rust that the 63-year-old actor was holding, causing the 42-year-old camerawoman Halyna Hutchins to die.

The gun should have had blanks in it. Baldwin indicated in an interview with ABC News in early December that he did not pull the trigger. It is still under investigation how the accident could have happened.
