Sandra Oh Expresses Desire to Reprise Role in “Princess Diaries” Sequel
Sandra Oh, renowned for her portrayal of Vice Principal Gupta in the 2001 hit film “The Princess Diaries,” has revealed her eagerness to return for the highly anticipated third installment of the franchise, currently in development.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Friday, Oh conveyed her message to the film’s creative team, stating, “I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I’m dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world.”
Last year, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced that Disney was working on a new “Princess Diaries” movie. While Anne Hathaway, who played the lead role, has publicly expressed her support for a third installment, it was reported that she had yet to finalize her return, pending script developments.
Regarding Julie Andrews’ potential return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, she indicated in an interview last year that it may not be feasible.
Although Oh did not confirm whether she has been approached by the film’s team, she did address the enduring popularity of her line from the 2001 film, where her character learns of the Queen’s impending visit to the high school. Recounting a memorable encounter, Oh described an incident in 2015 when a young person, outside her usual demographic, approached her on the streets of Chicago, reciting the famous line, “Uh huh. Uh huh. Uh huh. The Queen is coming.”
The details surrounding “Princess Diaries 3” have been kept tightly under wraps. However, Aadrita Mukerji has been selected to write the script for the new installment, which sources reveal will continue the storyline of the previous films rather than serving as a reboot. Debra Martin Chase, a veteran of the franchise, will return as a producer, while Melissa Stack serves as an executive producer. Fans eagerly await further updates on this beloved series.
