Mia Goth Faces Battery Lawsuit from Background Actor During “MaXXXine” Filming
Los Angeles, CA – Mia Goth, known for her role in the “Pearl” series, is reportedly facing legal action from background actor James Hunter, who alleges intentional battery during the filming of the upcoming installment in the “X” trilogy, titled “MaXXXine.”
According to reports from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Rolling Stone, Hunter filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court this week, naming A24, the film’s distributor, and director Ti West as additional defendants. Hunter claims wrongful termination from the project in addition to battery allegations against Goth.
In the complaint, Hunter recounts being hired to portray a “dead parishioner” lying in fake blood. During a scene last April, Goth, in a run past him, allegedly nearly stepped on his head. Subsequently, in another take, Hunter claims Goth intentionally kicked him in the head with her boot, leading to an immediate experience of headache and neck stiffness.
Despite reporting the incident to the production crew, who allegedly informed West and Goth, Hunter asserts that no medical assistance was offered. Following the scene, Hunter alleges that Goth ridiculed and mocked him, daring him to take action.
Rolling Stone reports that Hunter was diagnosed with a concussion after seeking medical attention at a hospital. The day after the incident, Hunter’s casting agency reportedly informed him that he was not wanted back on set.
“MaXXXine” serves as the concluding installment in West’s slasher trilogy, preceded by “X” and its prequel “Pearl,” both released in 2022. The film, currently in post-production, does not have a confirmed release date. Goth, reprising her role as Maxine, the series’ antagonist, is at the center of the lawsuit filed by Hunter.
