Eva Longoria was anything but happy with the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States. The actress and director became “depressed”, she says in an interview with The Guardian. “I stuck my head in the sand.”
“There is a lot at stake. Intolerance is increasing all over the world”
44-year-old Eva is best known for her role as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives , a superficial, high-profile former model. While Eva broke through with her glamorous role, she graduated on the career prospects of Latin women – women of Latin American descent – in the US.
Eva Longoria, who was the first woman of Latin American descent to direct two Hollywood films, was also always politically interested, but took a short break after the election of Trump. “I took a distance for two years,” she says. “But we can’t give up. So when the mid-term elections came, I decided to get involved in getting the right people elected and changing our government.”
The actress and director are already looking ahead to next year’s presidential election. “There is a lot at stake. Intolerance is increasing all over the world,” says Longoria. “If we can bring up enough people in front of the hatreds who believe in the power of love, then we have a chance.”
