The actress calls on the international community to resolve the situation …
Actress Cate Blanchett was on Tuesday at the UN Security Council to deliver an alarming speech on the situation of the Rohingya minority in Burma. It has been a year since the violence erupted in the Rakhine region, pushing the representatives of this Muslim minority to flee when they manage to escape what many do not hesitate to call “genocide”.
“Please, do not let them down again,” the activist said in the speech relayed by the Independent .
A dramatic situation
Cate Blanchett’s speech echoes a recently released independent report outlining the seriousness of the situation. However, no concrete action seems to be on the horizon.
The actress also highlighted “the significant gesture of humanity” that has shown Pakistan, a border country of the Rakhine region, hosting 700,000 Rohingya on its soil despite a complicated economic and health situation.
