The latest departure from NBC’s hit procedural drama “Chicago Fire” has fans buzzing, as actor Rome Flynn bids farewell to his character, Jake Gibson, after just six episodes.
Flynn’s exit, revealed during the March 27 episode, saw Gibson grappling with prescription drug withdrawals, ultimately deciding to seek treatment, leaving fellow firefighter Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) behind.
Taking to Instagram, Flynn bid his character adieu, marking the end of his short-lived stint on the show. While his departure adds a layer of uncertainty to the future of his character, show insiders remain tight-lipped about the possibility of his return.
Showrunner Andrea Newman, however, had expressed excitement about Flynn’s addition to the cast at the beginning of the season, describing him as a “phenomenal” actor who would bring a fresh energy to the firehouse. Yet, with Flynn’s departure, “Chicago Fire” continues to see a revolving door of cast changes.
Notably, Flynn’s exit follows closely on the heels of Kara Killmer’s departure from the show after 199 episodes, with her character Sylvie Brett bidding farewell to 51 and moving to Portland to be with Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer). Season 12 also saw the departure of Alberto Rosende’s character, Gallo, who moved to Michigan to be closer to family after just one episode.

Season 12 marks Newman’s first solo stint as showrunner, following co-creator Derek Haas’s departure after Season 11. Additionally, the season sees the return of Taylor Kinney, who rejoins the cast full-time after stepping away last season due to personal reasons.
As “Chicago Fire” continues to navigate cast changes, fans eagerly anticipate how these developments will shape the future of the beloved series, produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment.
