Rescuers continued their efforts on Thursday in a building dangerously inclined to find potential survivors of the earthquake that left nine dead and dozens missing in the Taiwanese city of Hualien, according to a new record.
Rescue operations are complicated by the fact that this picturesque port on the eastern coast, one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist destinations, has been shaken by many aftershocks since the 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck. Tuesday evening.

Under the effect of the main shake, the lower floors of a 12-storey residential complex collapsed on their own, leaving the structure tilted at 50 degrees, and threatening to collapse at any time.
This set, called Yun Tsui, which also housed a restaurant, shops and a hotel, was still on Thursday the priority of the rescuers who tirelessly continued into the night to enter the building.
