Jemima Khan is no longer collaborating on the story of Netflix series The Crown . The close friend of the late Princess Diana is not happy with the way Diana’s story is handled.
Khan works as a film producer and in 2019 was asked to help producer Peter Morgan with the script of the series. The fifth season, on Netflix next year, also examines the last years of Diana’s life, before she died in a car accident in Paris in 1997. But the princess’s story is not being treated “as respectfully or compassionately” as Khan had hoped, she told The Sunday Times .
“I thought it was important that the last years of my girlfriend’s life were portrayed correctly and with care, as has not always been done in the past,” she told the newspaper. Realizing that the story was heading in a direction she disagreed with, she claimed that her contribution and attribution be removed.
According to a spokesperson for the series, 47-year-old Khan has been “a friend, fan and supporter of The Crown ” since the beginning . She never signed a contract as a writer, but did provide information for the series, the spokesperson told The Sunday Times .
Diana was married to Prince Charles from 1981 to 1996. A year later, along with her friend Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul, she died in a tunnel near the Pont de l’Alma in Paris.
This week, Spencer , a film biography about Diana starring Kristen Stewart, will be released
