Elton John will release a new album on October 22. The Lockdown Sessions contains collaborations with a number of well-known artists, which came about during the corona period.
According to The Guardian, John has recorded songs with Stevie Wonder, Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks, Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Eddie Vedder and Nicki Minaj, among others.
For the first time in his career, the 74-year-old singer has recorded songs remotely, including via Zoom. “Other collaborations took place in strict compliance with the corona measures, for example with glass screens between us,” said John.
According to the Brit, the repertoire that he shows on his new album sounds different than his audience is used to.
“It’s a completely new area that I’m discovering. It reminds me of the beginning of my career, when I wrote music for many other artists. The circle is complete, that’s how it feels to me,” says John, who will be this fall Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour resumed. It is the last tour for the artist.
The new album also features some covers, including It’s a Sin , the Pet Shop Boys song that John performed with Years & Years at the Brit Awards. The collaboration with Dua Lipa, Cold Heart , was released in July.
It is the fourth time that John has released an album of collaborations. Duets from 1993 is the best known of these.
The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album but here it is. Thank you to everyone who came together to make it happen.
