Jake Gyllenhaal and Oscar Isaac star in Francis and The Godfather , a film about the origin of the famous crime thriller. Barry Levinson ( Rain Man , Good Morning Vietnam ) will be directing, Deadline reports .
Gyllenhaal plays Robert Evans, the Paramount film producer who was involved in the creation of The Godfather . Isaac plays the role of Francis Ford Coppola, the director of the film.
“Every Barry Levinson film is interesting and rewarding,” says Coppola (81) himself about the film that is being made about his masterpiece. The director is currently working on a new edit of The Godfather III from 1990, which will have a new ending in it.
The Godfather , based on Mario Puzo’s book of the same name, is considered one of the most important films in American history. In 1973 the film won three Oscars. He received the prize for best film, best actor and best script. The film is still number two in the list of the best American films by the prestigious American Film Institute , behind Citizen Kane .
However, the film’s realization caused problems between Coppola and Paramount. They disagreed about budget, shooting locations and casting, among other things. For example, the film studio would not have immediately agreed with Coppola’s choice of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, who played the leading roles in The Godfather .
It is not yet known when Francis and The Godfather can be seen in the cinema.
