American actor and director George Clooney will produce, co-direct and play in a new series, “Catch-22”, adapted from the novel by Joseph Heller, signing his return to television almost 20 years after leaving the series “Emergencies”.
The series will only be six episodes, announced in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Amy Powell, president of Paramount Television studio, which produces the series with the production house Anonymous Content.
Talks are underway with the online video broadcasting platform Hulu, told AFP a source close to the case, confirming the information of several US media.
It will be the first time that George Clooney has been hosting a recurring character on television since his appearance in “Emergencies” (1994-2009), the series that made him a celebrity.
He played the role of Dr. Doug Ross, who had resigned from the Chicago Hospital where the series was being performed during the episode broadcast on February 18, 1999 in the United States, George Clooney then throwing himself firmly in the cinema, with success.
Subsequently, he had made some brief appearances in the series, especially in 2009, during the fifteenth and last season.
Joseph Heller’s novel, which was previously adapted to the cinema by director Mike Nichols (1970), is set during the Second World War and evokes the fictional story of Captain Yossarian, an American aviator who tries to escape the fighting pretending to be crazy.
