A British judge has decided that the defamation case brought by Johnny Depp (57) against ‘The Sun’ may continue. The Sun had asked the court to declare the case invalid.
The Sun has written that 57-year-old Depp mistreated his ex-wife Amber Heard when they got married. The British tabloid magazine called the Hollywood star a “woman abuser” in 2018. Depp argues that the newspaper cannot substantiate this claim and demands substantial compensation.
The magazine demanded that the case be declared invalid because Depp would not have responded to a court request to provide text messages that he sent to his assistant that would be relevant to the case. However, the judge did not agree with this on Thursday.
Depp and Heard married in February 2015. She filed for divorce fifteen months later. The actress claims her ex-husband abused her, but Depp continues to deny this is true. The case will start on Tuesday. The court has reserved three weeks for the treatment.
Both Depp and Heard propose to provide evidence to support their claims.
