The 93rd edition of the Oscars has been moved to Sunday, April 25, 2021, the organization reports in a statement Monday . The show was originally scheduled for February 28, 2021, but is being postponed due to the corona crisis.
“For more than a century, movies have played an important role in finding comfort, inspiration and entertainment in the darkest times,” said the organization. “By postponing our awards, we hope to give filmmakers the flexibility they need to finish and release their films without being penalized for something no one can help.”
“These upcoming Oscars will mark a historic moment as film fans around the world come together to unite through cinema,” the organization added.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a new Los Angeles film museum belonging to the organization behind the Oscars, will also open later as a result of the corona outbreak. The museum would open on December 14, 2020, but opening is now scheduled for April 30, 2021.
